WINNERS AND LOSERS

THE BOOK OF PSALMS - PART 3

LESSON 64  Part 3

INTRODUCTION

We have come to the end of our study of "Winners and Losers" in the Book of Psalms. You have been given fresh insight into why the Holy Spirit warned us twice within only six verses concerning the importance of studying past lives and events in order to make the right choices and decisions in our own lives (1 Corinthians 10:6,11). Learn these lessons well-and teach them to others who are under your spiritual care.

THAT SNEAKY HUMAN HEART

106:10-15, 34-38                     Example of the fickleness and faithlessness of the human
heart versus the unchanging faithfulness and mercy of
                                             God.

107: (all)                                 Example of how God uses pain as man's greatest teacher.

111:9,10                                 Example of the proper attitude toward the only true
                                              "REVEREND."

112: (all)                                 Example of God's delight in the man that delights in God.

115:1-8                                   Example of the emptiness and futility of this world's gods.

118:5-10,17,18                        Example of how God plus one make a majority.

119:1,3,5,9-11, 16-20               Example of making God's Word the foundation of life.

30-33,36,38

WHEN AFFLICTIONS COME

119:67,71,75                           Example of how a wise man views afflictions.

119:96,98-100,120                   Example of the vast difference between God's education
                                             and that of man.
124: (all)                                 Example of what Israel's enemies face when they attempt
                                              to eliminate the Jews.
125:1                                      Example of the immovable stability of those who trust in
                                              God (see Isaiah 57:20,21).
126:1-3                                   Example of how others often see the great things God does
for us before we are wise enough to notice and be
                                              thankful.
127:1,2                                   Example of the futility of trusting human resources rather
                                              than relying on God.
128:1                                      Example of the best definition of "the fear of the Lord"-to
                                              "walk in His ways."

129:1-8                                    Example of the spiritual bankruptcy of haters of Jews.

A HEART OF PRAISE

131:1,2                                    Example of  one who is determined not to be a victim

                                               of pride. (see 1John 2:16).

135: (all)                                  Example of God's whole purpose in choosing Israel, and
those of us grafted in-to magnify Himself before the
                                               world.

137: (all)                                  Example of the demonic passion of anti-Semitism-and
                                              God's retribution.

139: (all)                                  Example of the awe and wonder of a godly heart.

141:5                                       Example of how a man of God should welcome criticism.

148: (all)                                  Example of a heart of praise responding to the power and
                                               love of God.

After all, look what man himself is capable of doing with the atom and hydrogen bombs. God has blessed man with incredible genius. We stand in awe as we watch men and women in a room full of computers and high-tech instruments guiding and landing spacecraft on distant planets. At that moment, we appear invincible. But then a mammoth tornado comes—or a terrifying hurricane—or rains that flood whole regions and never listen to our shouts to “Stop!”—or the shake that removes from under our feet any confidence or pride we carry, and leaves us numb with hardly enough breath to even utter the paralyzing word “EARTHQUAKE!”. And man is helpless in the face of it all!
