Lesson 75 - LEARNING TO WALK IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

(Making The Right Choices)

INTRODUCTION

Two spirits wanting to control your life-the Holy Spirit and the evil spirit called Satan. Two roads-one narrow that leads to life-the other wide that leads to death. Two voices reaching out for your heart and mind-the Spirit of God with pure instructions from heaven and the voice of Satan that can be subtle and appealing. You make the choice as to which road you will travel-the way of the world or the way of God. The following lesson points out the great difference in God's view versus that of the world. Look up each scripture reference and ask the Holy Spirit for discernment and revelation.

  1. The world's thoughts versus God's thoughts  (Arrogance versus humility)
    Revelation 3:14-17 (Man's way) versus Romans 12:1,2 (God's way)

  2. What it really means to love God  (Words from the mouth versus actions from the heart)
    Matthew 7:21-23,26,27 (Man's way) versus John 14:20-24; Matthew 7:24,25 (God's way)

  3. The use of time  ("My time is my own" versus "My time is God's)
    James 4:13-15 (Man's way) versus I Corinthians 7:29-31 (God's way)

  4. Life's purpose and motivation   ("Me first" versus "God first")
    Matthew 6:31,32 (Man's way) versus Matthew 6:33 (God's way)

  5. The use of the tongue  (Controlled by Satan versus controlled by the Holy Spirit)
    James 3:5 (Man's way) versus James 3:2 (God's way)

  6. The difference between two voices  (Satan's voice versus the Holy Spirit's)
    James 3:14-16 (Man's way) versus James 3:17,18 (God's way)

  7.  Recognizing the sin of spiritual adultery (In bed with the world versus "In the world, but not of it")James 4:4 (Man's way) versus I John 2:15-17 (God's way)

  8. The use of the body  (A fun house for Satan versus a tool kit for the Holy Spirit)
I Corinthians 6:13a (appetites of the flesh -Man's way) versus I Corinthians 13b, 6:19,20 (passion for the Holy Spirit - God's way)

  9. The use of the material ("I want it all for me now" versus "I want what lasts for eternity")
    Luke 12:16-21 (Man's way) versus Matthew 6:19,20; I Timothy 6:19 (God's way)

  10. The difference between religion and relationship  (Belief apart from a changed life versus faith that is validated by a transformed life)
James 2:19 (Man's way) versus II Corinthians 5:17 (God's way)

REMEMBER:  Review this lesson from time to time to check out your progress as you travel God's path for your life and trust His Holy Spirit to  keep you from the world's subtle  temptations that would try push you toward the road to destruction.

"Be ye followers of me, even as also I am of Christ."  I Cor. 11:1

Jesus said many would come in His name and deceive the hearts of the simple, sinful and proud. Eastern mysticism and meditation is a big thing in the gullible West. And one day a “world leader” will appear on the scene with the persuasion of a god and the heart of a devil. Jesus warns His children to know the Scriptures, live in obedience to the Father’s will, and stay alert to the signs of the times.
They laugh no more. Now God’s description of how He will destroy the old earth and create a new one makes perfect sense. The splitting of the atom turned many skeptics into believers. After all, look what man himself is capable of doing with the atom and hydrogen bombs. Now the fear is that nuclear weapons are being placed in the hands of madmen who wish to annihilate their enemies.
God has blessed man with incredible genius. We stand in awe as we watch men and women in a room full of computers and high-tech instruments guiding and landing spacecraft on distant planets. At that moment, we appear invincible. But then a mammoth tornado comes—or a terrifying hurricane—or rains that flood whole regions and never listen to our shouts to “Stop!”—or the shake that removes from under our feet any confidence or pride we carry, and leaves us numb with hardly enough breath to even utter the paralyzing word “EARTHQUAKE!”. And man is helpless in the face of it all!
