INTRODUCTION

Everything is fresh to a new believer in Christ. To be "born again" is new. To feel the relief of sins forgiven is new. To be excited about a "forever future" in the Kingdom is God is new. To discover the Scriptures and enjoy fellowship with the family of God is fresh and new.

But to meet the devil in open combat is also new. In the past, Satan could pay less attention to our new saint. After all, the devil pretty much owned him body, soul and mind. But now the evil one has lost him. The father of lies has now become the enemy of the new believer. And now our new saint is bombarded with temptations, tests and trials like never before. That is why many of us who were discipled by wise Christians were first warned that the devil would attack and then taught how to face and defeat him.

That meant using the weapons Satan fears the most-the Word of God and the Name of Jesus. There were around 70 verses from the Bible that were more or less known as "survival scriptures" that would develop spiritual muscle and keep us faithful to the Lord. We memorized them and those verses opened the door to a hunger for more of God and His Word.

Most of today's new Christians lack this tough discipleship. That's why most grow so slow and some don't grow at all. That is not going to happen to you. Whether you are a new Christian or many years old in the Lord, I want you to learn these basic scriptures that cover most areas of life and the battles you will face. It will take effort to memorize them, but you will reap eternal benefits.

Don't forget to review Part 1 that helps you memorize the 66 books of the Bible as well as a few important scriptures from the Old Testament. Now we begin the "must learn" verses in our New Testament. Memorize each one and then keep reviewing them. How long? Until Jesus returns or calls you home!

THE NEW TESTAMENT

MATTHEW 4:4 (Food for the stomach is not enough!)

"But He answered and said, 'It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'"

MATTHEW 5:16 ("This little light of mine-I'm going to let it shine.")

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."

MATTHEW 6:33 (Setting the right priorities in life)

"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."

MATTHEW 7:7 (No substitute for daily prayer time)

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."

MATTHEW 7:20 (Compare what people say by what they do.)

"Therefore by their fruits you will know them."

MATTHEW 10:32 ("Lord, help me never to be ashamed to tell others that I love You!")

"Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven."

MATTHEW 11:28 (Learning to give my burdens and problems to Jesus)

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

MARK 12:30 (This is what I want God-by His power-to make happen in my life day by day.)

"And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment."

LUKE 9:23 ("Lord, teach me daily to say 'No' to self and 'Yes' to you!")

"Then He said to them all, 'If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.'"

JOHN 1:12 (It is not enough for people to believe in Christ. Each must receive Him as Savior and Lord.)

"But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name."

JOHN 3:16 (The "golden verse" in the Bible that is great to use in witnessing.)

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

JOHN 8:32 (Jesus is the Truth-and He has set me free!)

"And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

JOHN 14:27 (Christ's peace will guard me from the world's troubles and fears.)

"Peace I leave you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

JOHN 15:16 (Jesus chose me as His own and wants me to bear fruit by witnessing to others.)

"You did not choose Me, But I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you."

ACTS 1:8 (God's promise of power to be His faithful servant and His witness in my home, school, job, neighborhood or foreign mission field.)

"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you: and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

ACTS 16:31 (A great promise to claim for my unsaved loved ones)

"So they said, 'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.'"

And one day a “world leader” will appear on the scene with the persuasion of a god and the heart of a devil. Jesus warns His children to know the Scriptures, live in obedience to the Father’s will, and stay alert to the signs of the times.
They laugh no more. Now God’s description of how He will destroy the old earth and create a new one makes perfect sense. The splitting of the atom turned many skeptics into believers. After all, look what man himself is capable of doing with the atom and hydrogen bombs. Now the fear is that nuclear weapons are being placed in the hands of madmen who wish to annihilate their enemies.
God has blessed man with incredible genius. We stand in awe as we watch men and women in a room full of computers and high-tech instruments guiding and landing spacecraft on distant planets. At that moment, we appear invincible. But then a mammoth tornado comes—or a terrifying hurricane—or rains that flood whole regions and never listen to our shouts to “Stop!”—or the shake that removes from under our feet any confidence or pride we carry, and leaves us numb with hardly enough breath to even utter the paralyzing word “EARTHQUAKE!”. And man is helpless in the face of it all!
