"If we lose the boat, swim to that island..."
By Frank Eiklor
"I think we had better get out of here while the getting’s good!” But Lionel just looked at me and smiled. Old Lionel. He is one tough hombre. He was also the pilot of our little boat and had veto power over my fears. I had to trust him.
"If we lose the boat, swim to that island..."
We were in Newfoundland, Canada on a fishing trip. The waters were already tossing us around, and those wild storm clouds were coming fast—with not a soul in sight. "Storms can mean we land the big one!”, shouted Lionel, eyes filled with excitement. "If we lose the boat, swim to that island”, was his only backup plan.
Well, the storm hit—and so did the big fish. A whopper! Fish on board, Lionel shouted, "Let’s get out of here. You take the front and call out when you see a rock. I’ll steer.” My open rain coat was flying in the wind and ripping to shreds as I yelled "left! right!” Lionel, avoiding the rocks, was laughing. He later said, "You looked like Zorro with your cape flying.” When we made shore, he asked, "What do we do with this big fish?” "Let’s eat it”, said this novice. And we did. All of it!
The storm—and my skipper—taught me a "forever lesson”
The storm—and my skipper—taught me a "forever lesson”. That’s when you land fish—big ones—if you don’t panic and just follow pilot’s orders "Steady as you go!”. I hear Christians saying, "Our country is lost. These are terrible days. Woe! Woe!! Woe!!!” What? God is not sovereign over everything—including elections, economy and man’s attempt to dethrone Him. Like Lionel in the storm, God laughs (Psalm 2), and warns the world to "Kiss the Son”.
Muslims are checking Jesus (Isa) out big time.
We were told "Storm’s coming!” We can’t run from God’s storms, but we can catch the trophy fishes—two legged ones. Jews are openly talking about a Messiah who must suffer, die and be resurrected. So I’m telling them, "Sounds like Yeshua to me!” Muslims are checking Jesus (Isa) out big time. "Mohammed can’t promise me eternal life. Isa can?” So into the Scriptures we go!
Atheists, Buddhists, Hindus? There are some "big ones” among them who are seeking the bait of truth. And we have THE TRUTH—JESUS!
