Now is Never Too Late
By Frank Eiklor and the Shalom Team
“Call Fred! Call Fred! Call Fred! Tell him I love him. I want him to know me. Tell him I want him with me forever.”
Those words were like a drum beat in my head and a sense of urgency in my heart. My brother was dying. He had been very sick for three years, and now time was running out. Fred had such a beautiful and unselfish soul. I always told him God used him to change my life.
You see, Fred was a teenager when he came home and told me, “I joined the Marines.” I’m older by eighteen months and told him, “Let’s do it together. I’ll join too.” That decision would change my life forever, when Jesus Christ revealed Himself to me and called me to follow Him on that tiny island in Asia.
After our service as marines and return to the States, I led my brother to Christ. But faith is like a fire—if not fed they both can die. Many years passed—over fifty—and I was desperate to know that Fred would die trusting in Jesus, and not in his own kind heart and good deeds. Our many chats gave me reason to doubt.
When I called him in Arizona, I asked his incredible wife Betty to put the phone by his ear. That’s when we prayed and asked Christ to forgive all sins and be Fred’s one and only Savior and hope. I was assured he had made that prayer his own. Seven hours later, Betty called to tell, “Fred just died.”
He and I—once marines together—have an appointment to be with each other again—in heaven.
Let this encourage you with your own precious loved ones. Keep praying for each one and watch for the Holy Spirit’s moment to urge them to choose Jesus. It may be the last chance they get.
We continue to send His love around the globe.
And lives—like Freddie’s—are being changed.
Thanks for your prayers and support.
