The Action Report
The True Heart of Ministry
By Frank Eiklor

“Holy Spirit of God, take this pen, this hand, this heart behind the hand and tell what life is all about.”

Focused on Him, I now write to you.

What is Shalom? What is “ministry”? It’s not what most folks think: “Go to Israel and the world to ‘minister.’ “Prepare Internet TV programs and lessons to win the lost and disciple the believers.” “Open and administer an office at certain hours.” And other “scheduled” stuff like that.

No, it’s more than that—much more.

·       Like talking to a flight attendant on the plane—having her whisper a broken heart—and guiding her to Christ.

·       Like building bridges of love to neighbors, watching them meet Jesus, and even baptizing them in a hot tub.

·       Like thinking “it’s time to rest” when a call suddenly comes in—a 59 year old man has been misdiagnosed for years. His “back pains” turned out to be stage four prostate cancer. He is angry

and bitter—but now I must bring Jesus to his fearful attention.

·       Like sharing the love of God at the bank—where the hearts of the guard, a teller and the vice president are so moved they welcome your return and give you the key to the vault (only

        kidding on the key).

·       Like a dozen or a hundred times a day where people cross my path and “ministry” is automatic and continuous.

In human warfare, battles are sporadic. In spiritual warfare, like Paul, I find it 24/7.

People, people, everywhere; needing love and tender care.

That is a little more of what Shalom is really all about. Once again, we ask for your prayers and support to keep reaching Jew, Gentile, the world.

Jesus said many would come in His name and deceive the hearts of the simple, sinful and proud. Eastern mysticism and meditation is a big thing in the gullible West. And one day a “world leader” will appear on the scene with the persuasion of a god and the heart of a devil. Jesus warns His children to know the Scriptures, live in obedience to the Father’s will, and stay alert to the signs of the times.
They laugh no more. Now God’s description of how He will destroy the old earth and create a new one makes perfect sense. The splitting of the atom turned many skeptics into believers. After all, look what man himself is capable of doing with the atom and hydrogen bombs. Now the fear is that nuclear weapons are being placed in the hands of madmen who wish to annihilate their enemies.
God has blessed man with incredible genius. We stand in awe as we watch men and women in a room full of computers and high-tech instruments guiding and landing spacecraft on distant planets. At that moment, we appear invincible. But then a mammoth tornado comes—or a terrifying hurricane—or rains that flood whole regions and never listen to our shouts to “Stop!”—or the shake that removes from under our feet any confidence or pride we carry, and leaves us numb with hardly enough breath to even utter the paralyzing word “EARTHQUAKE!”. And man is helpless in the face of it all!
