Lesson 155 - BITS OF WISDOM FROM AN OLD WARRIOR (PART 9)

Memorizing Important Scripturescontinued

Like Hebrews 4:12 says, there is nothing more powerful than the Word of God. I learned that immediately after meeting Jesus Christ. It would be three months before I met another true Christian (overseas in the Marine Corps) but this inner impression wouldn’t go away: “Read the Bible. More! More! Memorize verses that meet a need. Hide the Word in your heart.” Later, I knew it was the Holy Spirit teaching this new baby in Christ.

And wow! Every verse I memorized and reviewed began to strengthen me supernaturally. And whenever I faced a test, trial or temptation, those scriptures leaped into my mind and lifted my heart.

Now I’m giving you around 70 basic verses that you need to memorize and review until they are part of your thinking pattern. Let’s continue where we left off.

34) Live for the things that last for eternity. Keep Jesus your number one priority.

Colossians 3:1-2 “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is sitting

at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth."

35) Don't let fear control your life. This is God's promise to you.

2 Timothy 1:7 "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind."

36) The Word of God is your foundation of truth. Get to know it like a carpenter knows his tools.

2 Timothy 2:15 “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed,

rightly dividing the word of truth."

37) Little men like me write many books that contain only what humans are capable of. Only the BibleGod’s incredible

Wordis the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth."

2 Timothy 3:16 "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction,

      for instruction in righteousness."

38) Here it is! The best reason why we should take time to memorize and retain as much of God's word as possible.

Hebrews 4:12 "For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to

the divison of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

39) Faith is God's gift to each of his children. The more we live in and by the Word of God, the more our faith will grow.

Hebrews 11:1 & 6 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen...But without faith

it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who

      diligently seek him."

40) These two verses tell us how to be free from sin and how to run the race each day with patience and determination.

Hebrews 12:1-2 "Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every

weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking

unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame,

and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."

41) Never let your changing circumstances disturb or defeat you. Jesus never changes or fails.

Hebrews 13:8 "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."

Like the man lost in the desert who suddenly locates water—like the starving prisoner who is freed and offered food—I drank and ate and drank the Word, the Word, the Word! And just like He said, I got so full that rivers of this living water started flowing out of my inner being.
May you take such delight in His Word that you determine to memorize those scriptures that burn as you read them. You'll find they will burn again - in the nights when you need them!
When you memorize verses of scripture—God’s very Word—you are putting His mind and will for you into your own mind. You are thinking as Jesus wants you to think.
