Lesson 197 - THE WORLD OF TOMORROW: TEN PROPHECIES AWAITING FULFILLMENT (PART 2)
By Frank Eiklor and the Shalom Team
PART 2
You are more than a material, short-lived body. You are a spirit clothed in a body—eternal in God’s creative power and destined to live forever. And because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we can put total faith in the historic fact that our Lord “…has abolished death, and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel”. (2 Timothy 1:10)
You can trust the Word of God. We studied many prophecies that Jesus fulfilled in His coming to suffer, die and raise from the dead. Now we are looking at ten future prophecies that will take place when He returns as King of kings and Lord of lords. I shared five of these incredible prophecies in the last lesson. Here are the final five.
6. NOT MORE SUFFERING—NO MORE SIN. CHRIST'S RETURN WILL CAUSE GOD'S CLORY TO COVER THE EARTH
Isaiah 11:9
“They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
Habakkuk 2:14
“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.”
7. No more killing—no more war. Christ’s ETERNAL REIGN WILL EXCHANGE ARMAMENTS FOR AGRICULTURE
Micah 4:3
“He shall judge between many peoples, and rebuke strong nations afar off; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.”
8. THE MESSIAH WILL RULE OVER GOD'S KINGDOM ON EARTH AND A REDEEMED ISRAEL WILL SERVE AS HIS LIGHT TO THE NATIONS
Isaiah 2:1-5
“The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. Now it shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it. Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He shall judge between the nations, and rebuke many people; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore. O house of Jacob, come and let us walk in the light of the Lord.”
9. Yeshua the MESSIAH—Jesus the savior— WILL LITERALLY REIGN ON THE THRONE OF DAVID just as God promised Israel’s ancient King long ago
Isaiah 9:6-7
“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. and His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”
10. Our lord Jesus Christ’s RULE WILL EXTEND FROM GOD’S WORLD-WIDE CAPITAL— JERUSALEM—TO ALL THE NATIONS. And no argument from Israel’s neighbors will change God’s mind
Zecariah 14:16-19
“And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, on them there will be no rain. If the family of Egypt will not come up and enter in, they shall have no rain; they shall receive the plague with which the Lord strikes the nations who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. This shall be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.”
IN CONCLUSION
There are over 300 messianic prophecies in the Old Testament. We have only studied forty-three. We can now look back at many prophecies fulfilled in Christ’s first coming. But a future day will dawn when we will look back at His second coming and sing with the choirs of heaven to Jesus our King, “How great Thou art!”
