Lesson 206 - LEARNING TO HEAR WITH YOUR SPIRITUAL EAR (God's Plan and Promises for You from the Book of Isaiah)
By Frank Eiklor and the Shalom Team

"Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, 'this is the way, walk in it,' whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left." Isaiah 30:21

Does the Creator of this immeasurable universe really condescend to actually speak to men and women? His Word gives overwhelming proof that He does. From Adam to our day, God has chosen to speak to those who have sanctified hearts and spiritual ears. Youth is no barrier nor is old age. Social status counts for nothing, but a meek and humble spirit counts for everything.

Some in Bible days heard God's audible voice. In fact, a whole nation heard Him speak and was too terrified to hear Him again. In both past and present, God has made His voice known through visions, dreams and difficult-to-explain but impossible-to- mistake spiritual experiences. My wife, Norma, is a quiet and gentle person who hears God's voice most clearly through His Word. Yet once during an intense time of spiritual warfare, she heard the Lord addressing her spirit with the words "Norma, I love you."

It is up to you and me to want to know the living God more than anything in life. It is up to the Lord to make Himself known. It is up to us to want to both hear and obey Him. It is up to the Holy Spirit to make His voice real. Any deep relationship is built through quality time spent together. The more you spend time in the Word of God and prayer—the more you desire God’s will in every decision—the more you step out boldly in new steps of faith and trust—the more you will become aware of God's presence in your midst and His voice in your inner ear guiding you with the assurance: "This is the way, walk ye in it."

My prayer: "Oh how I long to discern Your voice from all others, precious Lord. Put a greater yearning in my heart to hear You and a greater yielding in my will to obey You, so that when the sudden turns of changing circumstances come my way, I will trust Your guidance.

"Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ" (I Corinthians 11:1)

Jesus said many would come in His name and deceive the hearts of the simple, sinful and proud. Eastern mysticism and meditation is a big thing in the gullible West. And one day a “world leader” will appear on the scene with the persuasion of a god and the heart of a devil. Jesus warns His children to know the Scriptures, live in obedience to the Father’s will, and stay alert to the signs of the times.
They laugh no more. Now God’s description of how He will destroy the old earth and create a new one makes perfect sense. The splitting of the atom turned many skeptics into believers. After all, look what man himself is capable of doing with the atom and hydrogen bombs. Now the fear is that nuclear weapons are being placed in the hands of madmen who wish to annihilate their enemies.
God has blessed man with incredible genius. We stand in awe as we watch men and women in a room full of computers and high-tech instruments guiding and landing spacecraft on distant planets. At that moment, we appear invincible. But then a mammoth tornado comes—or a terrifying hurricane—or rains that flood whole regions and never listen to our shouts to “Stop!”—or the shake that removes from under our feet any confidence or pride we carry, and leaves us numb with hardly enough breath to even utter the paralyzing word “EARTHQUAKE!”. And man is helpless in the face of it all!
