St. Paul School of Leadership & Discipleship Lesson 208 - GOD'S PROMISE TO THE WEARY AND WEAK (God's Plans and Promises for You from the Book of Isaiah) By Frank Eiklor and the Shalom Team
"But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31 Our last lesson’s truth - having our spiritual eyes opened to the greatness of God—is vital if we are to appreciate the incredible wonder of the promise given us in today’s study. Those who enlist in God's army will find themselves at war, and spiritual warfare can be far more intense than the greatest battles fought with human weapons. The enemies mentioned in Ephesians chapter six are invisible and can only be fought with God's weapons of the Spirit. That's why our context states that even youths shall faint and young men fall from exhaustion if they try to win the war against temptations, trials, tests and tribulation through the energy and endeavor of the self-life. But then comes a promise that no earthly soldier's commander has ever been able to give. To those who wait upon Him (the Amplified says "expect, look for and hope in Him"), God promises to renew our strength—a good rendering of the word "renew" is to exchange His strength for ours. We then learn to soar in the mighty wind currents of the Holy Spirit just like eagles do with invisible wind drafts high above the earth. As the Shepherd goes before us and sets the pace, we run or walk without that weariness that causes so many to quit the race. But always remember that there is a condition put on us by God before the exchange of our strength for His and our becoming like a soaring eagle can become a reality. The Father loves the company of His children and we are to seek and savor His presence. As we wait often before our heavenly Father with open Bibles and thirsting hearts, that mysterious impartation of greater and greater measures of the divine life result in Christ assuming more and more control over you and me. That spells constant renewal - our lives of weakness exchanged for His life of strength! My prayer: "Turn me into a spiritual eagle, oh my great and glorious Father. Teach me how to wait on You so that I can experience the renewal of divine life within me." "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ" (I Corinthians 11:1)

the fear is that nuclear weapons are being placed in the hands of madmen who wish to annihilate
their enemies. God has blessed man with incredible genius. We stand in awe as we watch men and women in a room full of computers and high-tech instruments guiding and landing spacecraft on distant planets. At that moment, we appear invincible. But then a mammoth tornado comes—or a terrifying hurricane—or rains that flood whole regions and never listen to our shouts to “Stop!”—or the shake that removes from under our feet any confidence or pride we carry, and leaves us numb with hardly enough breath to even utter the paralyzing word “EARTHQUAKE!”. And man is helpless in the face of it all! |
