A Hummingbird & Israel - Bringing the Dead to Life
By Frank Eiklor and the Shalom Team
I knew what the sickening thud meant even before I looked. When I turned to see, the little bird appeared almost dead. It was a tiny hummingbird that flew into the glass door of our patio. I was sitting outside – just the Lord and me. The tiny thing quivered a bit as I reached down to pick it up. My big hand felt so clumsy as I tried not to squeeze those frail feathers or break those twig-like legs.
Now I had little hummer in my hand. Instead of dying, the wee bird seemed to attach itself to my hand. Sort of like it was crying, “I need you!” I showed Norma. “Blow on it gently”, she said. As I breathed on the hummingbird, I was careful not to break its legs or let it fall from my hand. Its eyes opened and stared at me. I figured the stunned bird was ready to take flight so I tried to let it go. It just clung to my hand as if to say, “I’m not ready yet. Don’t let me go.” Some more gentle blowing, a few more caresses, and hummer’s wings went into full-flight mode. Off it went from my wife’s hand before circling back to the feeder – as if to give us a bird-felt thanks.
And that’s when I knew the Lord was using that hummingbird to tell me His heart for Israel and for me.
Teaching thousands of Christians to stand against anti-Semitism and live out unconditional love to the Jews. Some Jewish leaders accepting my hand of support, while others walked away because I could not – would not – renounce my belief that the real Jesus is good news for all people – including Jews.
Yes, my thoughts had been many when that little bird fell helpless at my feet. I thought of Jewish eyes that had opened to see the loveliness of Jesus. Like our friend Brooke whose radiant love for her Lord and her people shined across Israel before her death. But what about all of those who live and die without the revelation that the greatest Jew who ever lived has abolished death and guarantees life and immortality to all who trust Him?
That’s when I sensed His overwhelming love.
“Frank, before Abraham was, I AM. And I still am. I am blowing gently on the people of Israel. Soon they will be aflame with my love for them. They are the bruised reed that I won’t allow to break. I said all Israel will be saved. It will come to pass. I said a day will come when my people will say ‘Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord.’ It’s coming. Just keep loving them and being there when all others will abandon them. Just keep teaching my followers that my love must always be given, with no conditions. Never get discouraged. Remember the hummingbird.”
Will you pray for us? And I’ll be so appreciative of your support as the Lord leads you.
Remember the hummingbord and His love for you!
