Hello Again My Friend,
“I need someone to help me!” Those agonized words stopped me dead in my tracks before I reached the door to the gym. It was Big Mike, and he was looking at me.
Part of my teaching for almost 50 years has been: “Support worthy missions around the world, but don’t fail to be a missionary around your neighborhood.” Now was my chance to practice that simple motto.
The area gym where I work out was almost empty. As I used one for the weight machines, I couldn’t miss the conversation between the gym manager and a broad-shouldered guy named Mike. He seemed to want someone-anyone-to hear his cry for help. His life was like a ship on the rocks.
When the manager told him to “Try to hang in there”, I called over, “It’s a lot easier to hang in there with God’s help.” I told him that Jesus loved him and I would be praying for him. Mike offered his thanks and we all went on with our workouts. But later, as I headed for the door and home, He blurted a gut-wrenching, “I need someone to help me.” Moments later, we were in the corner of the gym with this physically powerful man crying like a baby. He asked the Lord to blot out his trail of sin and to change his life. Finally, Mike had hope!
Later, I met his wife and she almost shouted, “Oh, praise the Lord. It’s an answer to my prayers.” This beautiful young woman was the one “hanging in there” as mike went his own selfish way. Kathy thoughts “separate ways” was the only way. Now that Mike has discovered “the way” in Christ, Norma and I plan to disciple them in their new walk together.
Now multiply Mike’s spiritual hunger and cry for help by 1000% and you have Argentina – where I shall be heading in a few days. That report will come to you next month, Lord willing.
Also pray for the November journey to Israel where plans call for outreach to Jews, Arabs, and Lebanese. Some of my Jewish friends fear that Israel will sooner or later be swallowed up by the Muslim world and disappear. You and I know better. Israel’s destiny is life – not death – when softened Jewish hearts will be wrapped in the arms of the Hope of Israel – Yeshuah Himself.
Your help again this month is so important! And so appreciated!
Hoping to hear from you,
Frank Eiklor
