June 2009
Dear friend,
Drastic times call for drastic action. Perhaps that is why Norma and I (and the Shalom team) believe God is calling us to a great, life-changing decision. Please read this letter carefully. I'll break it down for easy analysis and prayer.
THE DEEPENING DARKNESS…
across America and the world. Abortion is in. Sexual deviation is flaunted. Monstrous debt is called “bailout.” Islamic extremists believe their time has come to rule the world. Greed and lust for power permeate Wall Street and Washington. Churches work at maintaining members in the pews rather than putting soldiers of God's love in the streets. “All religions are good”—except the “one-way” Jesus people, no matter how meek they appear. But God already warned those who would listen, “In the last days, perilous times shall come.”
THE OPEN DOOR…
that presents a new call to action. The Shalom ministry had deep roots on the East Coast. We reached out to Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, etc. After nearly a decade with our home base in New England, we moved to California and have been here for 22 years.
I have returned to New England each Easter season for nearly 10 years to speak at Christian Outreach (one of my best friends—Pastor Bob Hakala) in New Hampshire. There is a small army of wonderful believers who have stood behind us all these years. Others, up and down the East Coast, have called for us to “Come over and help us.” In short, we have been challenged to move back East for what my Norma calls “unfinished business”—possibly a new servant-leadership training center.
WHY CLIMB ANOTHER MOUNTAIN…
when you can stay in sunny California and enjoy your senior years? The better questions would be “Where can we reach more people with God's love?” “See lives won and equipped in God's power in the politicial, economic and educational centers of influence that affect this country for good or ill?” “Where we can be 3000 miles closer in our ministry to Europe and the Middle East?”
I RESIDE WITH A ROCK…
who is my gentle Norma. The Lord spoke to her heart (independently of my own) that He would take us back to the East and would go before us. And we both agree that we would rather die climbing a mountain in obedience to the Lord than dwell in comfort having said no to Christ's challenge to “Follow me!” The team believes God is going to accomplish incredible things as we again step out by faith.
Our home is up for sale and we're looking for our New Hampshire dwelling. The great cities of the East now beckon us again to take God's unconditional love that alone can transform lives.
IF WE EVER NEEDED YOU…
we need you now! Of course, we have always needed and appreciated all who have cared through the years. But now, we need your prayers and support perhaps more than ever. The Eiklors plan to move first. We will tell you details as things happen. The work in the West will continue, as will my journeys to California and other West Coast states for preaching and teaching.
I ask your prayers for the team, Norma and me. Your prayers and financial help will make this great advance possible in a time of deepening darkness where God's light must shine brighter and farther.
“YES, LORD!”
